Teenager Arda Guler Scored on his European Championship Debut
Turkey made a winning start to their UEFA EURO 2024 campaign with a thrilling 3-1 victory over Georgia in their opening Group F match at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, Germany.
Mert Muldur opened the scoring for Turkey in the 16th minute with a stunning long-range strike. Arda Guler, making his European Championship debut, doubled the lead in the 35th minute with an equally impressive goal. Guler received the ball on the edge of the area and unleashed a powerful shot that flew into the top corner.
Georgia pulled one back in the 63rd minute through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but Turkey restored their two-goal advantage just three minutes later. Guler turned provider this time, setting up Yunus Akgun for a tap-in.
Turkey held on for a well-deserved victory, which puts them top of Group F after the first round of matches. They will face Italy in their next match on June 22, while Georgia will take on Switzerland.
The victory is a major boost for Turkey's hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the tournament. They will be confident of their chances of progressing from Group F, which also includes Italy and Switzerland.
