The Ethiopian Orthodox Church has released its fasting calendar for 2023-2024, which outlines the periods and restrictions for adherents. During these fasts, believers are expected to abstain from meat, dairy, eggs, fish, olive oil, and wine.
Strict Fasting Periods
There are two main fasting periods in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church: the Great Fast and the Nativity Fast. The Great Fast, also known as Lent, begins on February 6, 2023, and lasts for 55 days, ending on April 9, 2023. The Nativity Fast begins on November 15, 2023, and ends on January 7, 2024.
